The Not So Amazing Race
Yesterday I made a decision. A decision that I have been heading towards for the past several weeks but couldn't quite make. A decision that required me to take off my rose tinted DKNY glasses and realize that my favourite show wasn't amazing anymore. The decision was this - I refused to tape The Amazing Race. This may not seem like a big deal to you but this has been one show that for the previous 7 seasons has rocked consistantly. It's won awards. And it's the only show that I tape religiously. Tuesday night just isn't that same without AR. I wasn't sure of the whole family edition thing when I first heard about it but was willing to give it a chance. I have to say I haven't been impressed.
Maybe I've bailed out too soon but every episode I thought it would get better and it never did. I don't know any of the contestants names and, frankly, I don't care. There's an annoying team from Florida, an annoying team from New Jersey (New York maybe???? the son who yells at his mother), 4 desperate housewives, a team w/ a super goodlooking guy and his siblings (this is the problem - I don't even know the hottie's name!) and some other teams. Yes, there has bickering and name calling but it's too hard to understand w/ 4 people yelling. There have been meltdowns and supremely embarrassing moments but it's just not the same. I haven't bonded with or developed a serious hate-on for any team. I also miss the world travel. Granted there are many, many awesome things to see in the US but part of the interest (for me anyway) is seeing people experiencing different cultures that they would never normally see and that I probably won't get to see. Yes, I realize that last week the teams finally left the States but I've moved on.
I can't believe I'm saying this but bring back Jonathan & Victoria, Lori & Bolo, Team Guido & that bitch that was partnered with Zach.
Please CBS - no more family edition. The only thing that could be worse is a celebrity edition. Let's hope that season 9 will be back with worldwide travel & teams of two. Congrats on trying something new but please go back to the original format. I'm thinking there's not going to be an Emmy for you guys this year.
Funnest team ever - Brian & Greg (season 7)
